Kim Ye’s Choreographies of Care will be performed at Flushing Meadows Corona Park’s Model Airplane Field in New York City on October 18, 2026 at 5:15pm.
The 30-minute movement-based performance combines choreography from the Asian tradition of park dancing with US military parade sequences, Qigong, and gestures taken from pregnancy, childrearing, and sex work. Performed by an intergenerational ensemble to a score that layers Chinese nursery rhymes, traditional East Asian instrumentals, in utero recordings, and “Taps,” the piece proposes caregiving as a form of national service that requires the sacrifice of feminized, immigrant, and Asian bodies.
The performance will be documented by aerial drone for further development as a video piece, rendering heroic those bodies that rupture under the collective weight of care.
Choreographies of Care is supported by the Franklin Furnace FUND for the 2025–26 season.
