U up?

Made in 2024 as part of Kim Ye’s Mellon Arts Fellowship at Stanford University, this middle-of-the-night multi-media VJ set takes viewers on a single-take desktop journey. Mixing original home video with performances commissioned from adult performers, and home-shopping-style shots of the Stanford family’s belongings, this virtual performance of racialized environmental anxiety is cast through a psychosexual web woven from the loose ends of parental sleep deprivation. Positioning talk shows, consumerism, sexual fantasy, news segments, and historical research as salves that both alleviate and exacerbate the suffering of modern pleasure, this late-night voyeuristic journey scours these Internet sources for sweet oblivion.

Performers: Lena Chen, Empress Ming, Sorceress Bebe, King Noire, and Maxine Holloway
Music: Micah Huang’s Biofeedback synth from Other Minds (2022)
